Engagement portraits don't have to be limited to parks or the streets of the French Quarter. This Texas couple wanted to capture some fun engagement portrait pictures at a funky little New Orleans restaurant, so we started out at District Donuts on Magazine Street before heading off to Audubon Park to continue with the session.
The photographs we did here were taken without using flash, just the available light, which was a mix of some natural window light and the ambient lighting in the restaurant. I did this both to not disturb other guests, and to help better capture the ambiance and mood of this location in the pictures.
Though I usually prefer a telephoto lens for portraits, selecting a wide-angle lens enabled me to shoot in the somewhat tight confines of the restaurant, with the fast aperture making it possible to shoot in low light with no flash while also giving a pleasing softness to the wall in the background.
