As enjoyable as it is to photograph events in New Orleans and the surrounding area, I love it when I have an opportunity to capture weddings in other locations, such as in the small town of Woodville, Mississippi. Sydney and Jacob’s ceremony and reception took place at the Historic Planters Building, which was a fantastic venue with tons of character.
We had some time after the ceremony for portraits of the couple and the wedding party around the area, which was lots of fun. The night was capped off with a sparkler send-off!
After the wedding, the bride and groom sent me this kind note in the mail:
Thank you so much for capturing the most special day of our lives so beautifully! We love all of the photos and they will be so special to look back on over the years. We wish you many blessings to come!
This building was constructed in 1903 to serve as a store in the small town of Woodville, Mississippi, established as the Planters Mercantile Company. The store ceased operations after the Great Depression, and reopened as Planters Hardware Store several years later. After this business closed in 2010, it served as a cafe and gift shop.
The current owners purchased the building in late 2019 with the idea to renovate the space into an event venue. Though COVID presented some significant hurdles, they persevered through this difficult time, and the venue is now a successful venture.
A plaque on the outside of the building reads
Planters Hardware Company
c. 1900
Originally established as Planters’ Mercantile Co. Became Planters Hardware in 1947, under Frank Bell, until it was closed in 2010.
