Alyssa and Austin’s wedding at Southern Oaks had everything, and I mean EVERYTHING! This was actually the first ceremony at Southern Oaks that I’ve photographed under the oak tree as opposed to on the front steps of the plantation, with the beautiful floral decorations provided by Nola Flora. The moment was bittersweet, as Alyssa’s grandfather, a pastor who had officiated many weddings in the family, had passed away recently, but he was there in spirit, with his robe placed on a seat next to his wife.
After the ceremony, the Pin-Stripe Brass Band led the couple and wedding party back to the house for the reception, where Tyler Kinchen and the Right Pieces providing the entertainment (as I overheard Austin say, “that was the ONE thing that I asked for!”). The Cafe du Monde truck showed up to provide delicious beignets and cafe au lait to the guests, and Drago’s was on hand as well for char-grilled oysters.
As if that weren’t already enough awesomeness for one wedding, at the end of the night the guests were treated to a genuine Mardi Gras parade, complete with police, floats with riders throwing beads and trinkets, the Zulu Tramps, and a brass band, with a grand fireworks show capping things off!
