This Indiana couple had for quite a while been in the process of planning a large wedding and were getting frustrated by the increasingly arduous process, when they suddenly had an epiphany… they already had a visit to New Orleans planned for the end of December, and they would scrap the big wedding plans in favor of eloping instead! They had to move quickly, though, as the trip was only about 3 weeks away. They decided to exchange vows at Degas House, a beautiful and historic residence on Esplanade Avenue where Edgar Degas lived for several years and is now a museum showcasing the famed artist’s work, and also hosts weddings and other special events. Though I had photographed weddings there in the past, this was the first elopement at Degas House that I had shot. Nicky was an adorable bride! After the ceremony and a toast with the handful of friends and family members who had accompanied them, we went outside and captured some portraits of the newly married couple in the courtyard area behind the pair of houses. We then headed over to nearby New Orleans City Park, where the couple enjoyed some delicious beignets at Morning Call.
