I had the genuine pleasure of photographing this wonderful Texas family at Oak Alley Plantation as they made their way back home after a visit to New Orleans. There was a bit of a drizzle of rain in the area, but it cleared out in time for our portrait session, and had the added benefit of making the light softer and more pleasing to work with.
A family portrait at Oak Alley Plantation is a great idea for visitors to Louisiana and for locals alike, giving the added benefit of being able to tour the famous mansion and manicured grounds and learn a great deal about Louisiana history. There are several spots that work beautifully for small to medium sized groups, and although this popular site is almost always bustling with visitors, we can usually frame these bystanders out of the shot, or shoot in a way that results in them being blurry in the background and not particularly conspicuous. The shot down the main brick walkway with the massive canopy of ancient oak trees and the stately home is, of course, the most recognizable view of Oak Alley, but some beautiful portraits can also be created around the bases and roots of the 300 year old trees.
