My final wedding of 2012 was fantastic… an absolutely delightful pair to work with, and my first gay couple! We started out with an emotional first look, before heading to Latrobe’s for the ceremony and reception.
Karin and Bonnie had a wonderfully heartwarming “how we met” story… they both (separately) felt compelled to come to New Orleans after Katrina’s devastation to help rebuild the city by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, and as a result, ended up meeting here. This connection was represented at the wedding by their cake, a Habitat house! And many of their fellow Habitat volunteers were present as well.
This was a neat idea… a wine box crafted by Bonnie’s dad was to function as a “time capsule” for the couple. In addition to two bottles of wine, and notes of well-wishing from the guests, they enclosed sealed letters to each other, and nailed the box shut, to be opened on their 5 year anniversary (which will undoubtedly consist of a trip to New Orleans!).
And in one of my most favorite wedding moments ever, at the end of the night Bonnie read aloud a letter she had just been handed that had come from a dear friend who was unable to make it to the wedding but wanted to surprise the couple with something memorable. With their reception winding down and just about over, Karin’s reaction to hearing that it wasn’t quite over just yet (a Second Line parade led by the Kinfolks Brass Band had been secretly arranged with the help of Rhoda at All About Events and Rylan at Latrobe’s) was priceless!
