Located on Bayou Bonfouca near Old Towne Slidell, Palmetto’s on the Bayou is a great location for a wedding on the northshore!
At Palmetto’s, wedding ceremonies most often take place on the lawn adjacent to the venue, in front of a beautiful large oak tree, though occasionally if there has recently been some heavy rain, this area will be too wet. In that case, or if it’s raining on the wedding day, or if the couple simply prefers a different look, ceremonies can take place under the covered deck area behind the venue, where receptions are also held.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the couple celebrated before walking back down the aisle, pausing for a great dip and kiss. We then spent some time capturing some beautiful portraits of the bride and groom back on the dock behind the venue, on Bayou Bonfouca.
At the end of the night, the bride and groom were given a send-off with bubbles, which I really love shooting, as I find they photograph exceptionally well.
Sparklers are another great way to give the couple a memorable send-off, though be sure to get the longer sparklers, which will burn for an extended time and provide enough time for all the guests to light them. And, of course, make sure the person handing them out tells everyone not to light them until they are told that the couple is ready to leave… otherwise, there’s a good chance they’ll be burned out by the time the couple comes out. But with bubbles, there are no worried about this, and they are safer as well!
In addition to this fantastic wedding venue, Slidell has other great locations for weddings, such as Antebellum House and the Sadie Jane. Bayou Haven is another great choice. For much larger indoor weddings, other options are the Municipal Auditorium, and the Northshore Harbor Center. Another great outdoor wedding venue is Garrett Field Estancia (which is literally two minutes from my house!). And not too far away is The Barn of Pearl River.
If you’re willing to drive just a little further, and want a more rural area, The Villa in Carriere, MS and Norris Oaks near Picayune, MS are both good choices.
