Cameron and Nikki came down for a mid-April visit to New Orleans. He intended to propose, and wanted this important moment captured. Being French Quarter Festival weekend, a proposal in the French Quarter would not have been ideal in terms of crowds. So, we decided to go with City Park, which was a great choice.
Marriage proposals can be challenging to photograph, as we need to remotely work out the details of where and how it will take place. Cameron and I had extensive communication through email, with Google maps screenshots to coordinate where in the park the proposal would take place. But we also had to recognize that the exact spot would have to be at least somewhat of a game-day decision that would be dependent on the lighting conditions at that particular time, along with any other unanticipated factors that might arise (such as other people in the area).
We had a primary area picked out, along with an alternate. As it turned out, we were on the cusp of needing to switch to that alternate spot, as when I arrived ahead of our scheduled time, I found that our first choice was occupied by other park visitors. I secretly kept him updated by text message as he was en route. But thankfully the area was clear by the time the couple arrived, and we were able to proceed at our main spot.
It worked out well, and we finished up with some portraits of the couple afterward.
