This Washington DC Couple’s wedding took place at the beautiful NOPSI Hotel in Downtown New Orleans. The couple had cute newspapers printed up, with details about the wedding, suggestions for fun things to do in the city, fun facts about the couple, and their love story (short version: they met in college but drifted in different directions, until they happened to end up working on the same floor in the same House office building in DC and reconnected).
The couple had a first look in the hotel’s courtyard, and then we headed out for some portraits around the area. After the ceremony, wonderfully officiated by a family member, we hit the streets for a second line parade led by the fabulous Kinfolk Brass Band while the staff set up the ballroom for the reception.
Another fun thing the couple had was a “Sip & Solve”, a large crossword puzzle consisting of various facts about the couple and the wedding!
This notable and historic building was constructed in 1927 to house NOPSI (New Orleans Public Service, Inc.), the organization that at the time provided what now seems like a broad array of services to New Orleans residents and businesses: electricity, gas, and public transportation. In 1980 these responsibilities shifted to other entities, and the building was abandoned, but was subsequently designated as a historic landmark.
In 2017, the building was was reborn as the NOPSI Hotel. The spectacular ballroom features lots of exposed brick, huge arched windows, and fascinating industrial vibe punctuated by a massive crane mechanism that had been used back in the day to move electrical equipment around.
